- Remove outer cover of lip-stick size microscope device
- Pull out the black mini-microscope from the inner tube
- The microscope lens, where you apply your saliva sample, has been protected with a plastic seal. Please remove the protective seal before first using the microscope.
Place a small amount of saliva (try avoiding bubbles and not to overflow lens), onto the bottom of the mini-microscope lens
- Replace the mini-microscope back into the inner tube
- Place outer cover over it. We recommend allowing the saliva sample to dry at least 10 minutes, depending on environment humidity.
- Remove the outer cover and with one hand take the DONNA device, using your thumb and middle finger to hold it. With your index (pointing) finger, push in and hold the white button on the opposite end of the DONNA.
This will put on the yellow light. With the opposite hand, focus by turning the top piece of the microscope at least 2 complete turns in either direction in order to view results clearly.

A woman fertile period changes during her monthly cycle. The egg matures in approximately the middle of this cycle, about 14 days prior to the onset of menstruation. The fertility period is estimated roughly as 6 days. Calculation of this fertile period based on the cycle can be quite inaccurate, especially in the case of women with irregular cycles.
Fortunately, other change in the woman's organism can indicate fertile and infertile periods.
Often used is the curve of the basal body temperature: in the first half of the cycle, shortly after the beginning of the menstrual period, the temperature is low, after the egg is released, it rises.
It has been observed that, during fertile days, a sample of saliva resembles "ferns", while during all other days only shapeless, "dotted" structures can be seen. This fact has been known for many years only to researchers and medical specialist. Now the miniature microscope is on the international market, readily available. Any woman can check her fertility anytime and anywhere.
Saliva is the easiest accessible body fluid. There is no need for complicated blood or urine tests. "Fern" structure starts 3-4 days before ovulation and ceases 2-3 after ovulation. The fertility period lasts less then one week. If a woman does not want to conceive, she should, during this period, either abstain from intercourse or use some reliable method of contraception. On the other hand, the "dotted" structure of the saliva sample generally indicates a "safe" period.

IMPORTANT : to avoid incorrect interpretation of the sample, ALWAYS carefully clean the slide with a cotton swab soaked with water before applying a new sample. The quality of the saliva sample can be affected by smoking, alcohol, medicine, food consumption. Therefore it is highly recommended to use saliva for testing after 2 hours abstinence from these substances. In alternative, cervical mucus can be used.
MAINTENANCE: the tester is designed for every day use and does not require special care. Avoid excessive dust and heat. The batteries used for the microscope light are of a standard type and can easily replaced.
DONNA® Fertility Tester has been extensively tested with excellent results. This device must be used only as an aid in determination of fertility and the manufacturer cannot accept any responsibility for incorrect interpretation of result. The manufacturer is constantly striving to improve this device. As a result, minor modifications/improvements can be made without notice.
